Should I take out the Li-Ion battery? Will leaving the battery in while the laptop is plugged into the wall, degrade my battery? Whatcha think?

It's fine to just leave it in. The chargers in laptops will stop charging the battery when has reached full charge.

<< Yeah you should leave it in just in case it needs charging anyway. >>

Same thing here, I've never taken the battery out of my laptop, hope this helps.

It depends on circuitry in your charger; newer ones most likely prevent overcharging.

In my 1/2 year old Dell I can let it plugged in AC.
In 3 1/2 years old Toshiba the battery should be either removed after full charge, or alternate AC and battery periodically.

These are instructions from official user's manuals .....

you shouldnt need to remove the battery. the newer lith-ion batteries does not have memory defects like the older nickel metal hydride which makes them not hold a charge. but once awhile they do go bad. i used to do tech support for HP notebooks and i cant recall a day when i didnt have to crew out a new battery, and sometimes as early as two months.

I've been reliably informed that leaving the battery in when using AC acts as a partial surge protector!

And also, if the power should die while your laptop is on AC, it will immediatly switch to battery power, acting like a UPS. Just leave it in, and stop worrying about it ;)

<<partial surge protector! >>

UPS yes, surge No. You have a mainboard and/or a voltage reg/charger board between the wall outlet and the battery
