With the 64 bit AMD chips coming and p5's coming late 2003/early 2004, when will you stop thinking about buying current chips/ mobos and start waiting for the next technology? I put a system together in april

p4 2.53
intel 845PEBT2 mobo
512 MB 2700
80GB WD

What do you predict will be legacy technology, and what will be new....Will SATA be the predominant drive connection...etc.?

This is more of discussion, not so much a question

You know, we wouldn't want to have a system from the previous generation or anything come next winter.....

Once the new CPU's are under $200 and mobo's have PCI-Express, then I'll look into purchasing a new system. For now though, I'm done. Peace.

I'm waititng for ddr2 533 and a 1ghz bus for intel chips. Then when the price is right I'll build a new computer. Otherwise my p3 1 ghz is running fine.

Just upgraded from 1600+ to a 2500+... and i would've stayed with the 1600+, but my sister needed new computer so I hopped on the chance for an upgrade. The only thing I will be upgrading is my video card... for the next year at the least, I don't plan to upgrade my cpu at all.

Ditto here. Except my daughter got the xp1600+ and I got the 2400+. Won't be doing much upgrading for a while now. Maybe a DVD burner and that is is.

One word : PRICE!

I don't care what's out, but if the CPU alone is $250, it is already too expensive in my boot.

Actually, I got really SPOILED by my local FRY's Electronic Store,
if the CPU ain't Below $100, I won't even consider.

Perhaps, when the P5 comes out, I'll be salivating over that so-old-P4 3200c
