I had just been getting into working out and was continuing to lose weight when I came down with strep throat on Sunday. I have been fighting it off since (got the shot to try to get rid of it faster, rather than pills) and I am starting to finally get better, but I wanted some advice on when I should start working out again? I don't want to set myself back on getting well, but I don't want to get any farther out routine/shape than I have to....

All advice is appreciated.

I tend to work out if I am sick, only exception is diarrhea. Big squats with diarrhea would be a bad combo. If you are feeling better go for it imo.

If you have any kind of fever, don't work out at all. Get plenty of bed rest and keep your calorie intake up. Once the fever is completely gone do a workout with reduced reps or sets. It doesn't take much to maintain, so be conservative. Go with normal weight. If you can't lift your normal weight (or just feel really weak in general) stop working out and take another few days off before trying again.

Don't freak out if you need to take a full week off. Just keep eating normally to recover. Think of this as a forced break. Speaking of breaks, how hard have you been working yourself lately? Over reaching can hamper your immune system and may be why you're having the problem with the strep throat.

It may have nothing to do with it, but if you're taking antibiotics and are still worried about taking time off for rest it isn't too much of a stretch to think you push through other signs of fatigue as well.
