? When to replace a hub with a switch ?

Currently have small network in office running under Win98, with 8 computers connected through an 8 port hub. The network seems to work fine, but is there any way to determine if/when one should upgrade a hub to a switch? Are there any "benchmarking" programs or the like to test your network speed?

TIA for any help. 😀

Thanks for the link/info. I guess then, that there is no hard and fast rule about switching from a hub to a server. Maybe the switch should be made when one is unhappy with the current performance of their hub system...

as long as your happy with the ping times and file transfer speeds, you don't need to upgrade
