When to refill laser printer cartridges?

Hi,

I just bought a Samsung ML-1665 laser printer. I think the cartridge is chipped so that it won't work if it goes empty (like most ink cartridges).

Should I add toner before it goes to empty? Has anyone refilled their Samsung laser cartridges and had a good outcome?

Any advice is welcome, good advice will be valued.

Thanks,

Unless your time is worth very little, I would say the most economical solution is to simply buy genuine toner. If cost is that big of an issue, consider switching to a non-chipped laser printer like the HP 4000 series, then you can buy cheap 10,000-page cartridges for $20 each off eBay like I do... :)

Seems like you have no choice. You have to refill before the cartridge is empty. Process only takes a few minutes provided there is a cap on the cartridge that you can easily remove & replace. It is probably best to refill in low-lighted area. After refilling, shake the cartridge side-to-side to distribute the powder inside evenly. I think that Samsung is relatively new because it is not easy to find generics yet, and there are few refill options.
