When to followup for an interview?

I had a phone interview recently (not a local position) and then followed up exactly one week later. I was told that they were still in the interviewing process and so I followed up 10 days after that and told same thing? Should I expect a rejection letter shortly? What are the best followup procedures?
 
Next day. Dont wait that long or your job will be gone, taken by some with more motivation to get that position.
