Since my 7 year old is in second grade this year i am wondering if I should show her some of the news about 9/11 this year or wait a couple more years. I don't want her to see the graphic footage of the bodies falling but is she old enough to see the planes crashing into the towers?

I know it is a very subjective question so really when did you let your kids know about this important piece of history for the US?

I quit watching news because it is very depressing. The world is full of depressing and horrible things. I'm not you and I don't have children but if I did I would do everything in my power to let them stay a child and innocent for as long as humanly possible. Perhaps ask her what they talked about in school every day this week and if she brings it up then you could talk about it.

It hadn't even occurred to me as a "thing" I need to talk to her about.

Immediately after Pearl Harbor and the Johnstown Flood but before you get to the 1900 Galveston Hurricane.

Seriously though is this an actual thing people worry about? I seem to remember getting all my history from books and history class. I don't remember my parents sitting me down and talking about Vietnam when I was a kid. Besides you think the 9/11 videos are bad, just wait until she flips past the History channel when they are showing videos of concentration camps and mass graves.

Also I'm willing to bet she has already been exposed to 9/11 in school and probably does not care as it is old people stuff.

I avoid the news on 9/11. I remember it well enough that I don't need to relive it every year.

You should discuss and watch 9/11 news with your daughter if she is curious and asks you about it. Just like Pearl Harbor, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Vietnam War, Gulf Wars, etc. It's not sexual education that is mandatory to be taught correctly.
