Hello,

New to the groups here. I was hoping someone would be able to lend a hand with a question I have been contemplating..... when to buy? I currently have an AMD 1700+, 60 GB hard drive 5,400 rpm, Radeon 8500 DV 64 Mb, 768 MB Ram.

I like to game, occassionally due some video work (just for fun)

I want to buy a new system with an AMD processor... preferrably with the upcoming 64 FX-53. I also want to have a motherboard and video card with the upcoming PCI express. What kind of time frame am I looking at if I want to buy these products? Should there be PCI express equipment & AMD motherboards this Spring?

I have built computers in the past but have very little time to spare and I don't like the headaches (I stick to upgrades now). Since I am doing an overhaul what company would you suggest? I am looking at Alienware now???

Thank you,

I'd wait until summer to buy anything. Alienware is overpriced...though I'm not entirely sure who to reccomend in place of them.

I don't know your price range but here are some other nice vendors:

Falcon Northwest

Voodoo PC

Hypersonic

Velocity Micro

Overdrive

Screamworx

Falcon and Voodoo are very expensive, Screamworx is relatively new and has little reviews but looks promising, Hypersonic is a decent builder, Overdrive is a nice little place (they overclock things for you don't know if you like this or not, they know what their doing though, Velocity Micro is what I am looking at buying from later this year as they are a established company like Falcon and Voodoo with many reviews but cost quite a bit less. Check out reviews and Resellerratings to help narrow down your choices.

Thank you for the information!!! I am looking at spending right around $3,000 w/o monitor. I have never bought a "top end" system before (always built my own). With my time crunch I will definately check the links you sent. It looks like I should hold off on buying anything until Spring with PCI Express is available!

if your going to buy something now, get a video card, and wait for the fx53.
