When the infantry is heading out to possibly engage the enemy ...

... do they wear ear protection since it might likely they will be firing their weapon?

Seems like a easy trade off, not being able to hear your surroundings and possibly being killed vs not being able to hear later in life.

Some infantry have noise canceling headgear. They amplify outside sounds so that their hearing can actually be better than normal, but the circuitry cuts off the sound when a bullet shot is detected, sparing the wearer's hearing.

my shooting head gear has noise canceling stuff in it, i can hear people talk clearly, but the shots dont ring in my ears. pretty cool tech.

I dont wear hearing protection when I shoot my own stuff, and I sure as hell wouldn't if I was in combat.

LOL, WHAT? I can't hear you, I never wore hearing protection.

Most armed forces provide at least one form of hearing protection.

I've heard some of the high end stuff is good enough that you can have a conversation at the rifle range without missing a beat. Technology is great 🙂

The good folks at gemtech see to it that my hearing is just fine thanks. 😉

Just waiting on the paperwork for my HVT so I can play with it.

One of the more common, non-electronic hearing protection methods is a special type of ear insert. It's designed to be inserted in either direction, depending on what is sought.
The one side, iirc, is good at blocking out low frequency sounds, like gunfire and explosions, but lets in higher frequency sounds, like voices... so that you can talk and hear each other relatively clearly but not suffer damage from your gunfire or nearby explosions.

I cannot remember what the other side does though. I doubt its the reverse... it might be better at blocking most things coming in, regardless of frequencies... or.. not sure.

Don't know about adair, don't know him, but basement dwelling losers will often compensate for their utter lack of real life balls that way.

you can! i use my ex BIL stuff, he paid bux for it. im usually ok without it, but those cannons he took the last time out shooting i was glad for the protection.

IIRC they are issued hearing protection, the two way stuff. Blocks off loud sounds, lets through low. Like $10 a pair. Most don't wear them from what I read.

Has technology caught up to blocking out nagging voices? 😉

Yes! And in a variety of ways . . . the AT user ignore function, potent anti-psychotic drugs, easily modifiable semi-automatics. 😉

Who's talking about tolerance? A quote like ""Be professional, be polite - but have a plan to kill everyone you meet."

Seriously, that's fucking crazy!

That's just stupid, but whatever.

Anyways, it was Army policy for all soldiers going outside the wire to wear ear and eye protection, at least while in a vehicle convoy. Perhaps foot patrols skip the ear protection, and perhaps some units ignore the rules (I can guarantee that a lot do). But the idea isn't to protect from your own weapon but blast/pressure damage.

A lot of soldiers have lost eyesight and hearing because they got hurt before the current rules, or were lazy/ignorant after the policy came into effect.

Can I get something similar to block out the 12 year old boys that sound like girls on every online game on the planet?

Stop playing with 12 year old boys. Probably not the first time that you've heard that in your life.

So how do you do it?

They have that... it's called mute.
