Very rare, very expensive. Newegg only has one of then..a 3 pack. I saw on some website where you could buy a 100 pack for $300.

Doesn't only +R have DL media? Last I heard -R didn't have DL media...

Edit:

nm...I see you meant burners...they have been out for awhile. You can get a nice NEC 16X for like $60...

either way i'm not paying 5+ dollars a disc when its just as easy to use two ultra cheap single layer discs. I too am waiting for HD-DVD or a BlueRay Drive

Hd DVD and blu ray are gonna kill it

I'm not sure, but what are the current projectors for HD DVD and blu-ray media? If they're anything like how when dvd's and dual-layers just came out, dual-layer isn't going to die that easily. New format is barely being released this year, and it'll take a while for burner and media prices to get to an acceptable price.

Until then, I'll continue using single-layers.

they've been out for awhile... prices aren't that much different than single layer burners, though the price for the media is a killer.

I bought a few dl disks just to try out the new burner (nec 3500a). It's soooo much more convenient on full copying, especially for episodal stuff. I don't mind using regulard dvd's for data and net rip stuff, but for movies and such I won't use anything but dl...I happen to like having the full movie with all special stuff with no hassle on my part to get it there.

That being said I'm not out copying like a mad fool because prices are still hovering at $5-7 each. When prices drop below $3 a piece I'm on it though, which should happen soon this year. Production ramp-ups are taking place now and the industry buzz is that by the end of summer prices will be at a decent level.

It's going to be a long time before Blu-Ray or HDDVD gain the market penetration and consumer acceptance DVD has. They are going to remain prohibitively expensive for a while, longer than it will take for DL media to come way down in price. You won't see the rapid drop in price that you've seen with current DVD technology as your average consumer has no need or desire to switch from DVD to one of these technologies.

Aren't dual layer burners out?

What do you have to burn that requires a dual layer DVD-R anyway?
Of course they are, I have 3. As was said, they're no more expensive than single layer drives.

I occasionally burn shows and movies off my MCE box to DL media.

Won't DL DVD-R be more compatible than DVD+R or does it not matter too much now? I don't know of any DL DVD-R burners out. I know there are plenty of DL DVD+R. I currently have an NEC 3500a.
