It seem like LCD prices have not bugged, as ever other PC component continue to drop. Im running a 7800GT on a 15? CRT so I have been waiting for over a year for the prices of LCD?s to drop, but only a small decrease in prices have been made. So whats going on?

I don't think you're going to see any more drastic price drops, or at least not on the 17/19" sizes.

The monitor you buy for say $300 keeps getting better, but the overall prices haven't changed all that much for a while now.

I'm sure they will continue to slowly drop, but i think it's going to be eventual...& much more slowly.

Get the smaller LCD and save your self a hernia when you try to relocate that bohemoth of a CRT.

My 19" CRT has been running good since 1998. LCD prices still aren't attractive to me.

Both Samsung's and LGE/Phillips' new LCD lines have just started, a few months ahead of shcedule. This is expected to lead to overcapacity. Wait a few more weeks for prices to start to drop, both on monitors and LCD TVs.

my 19", Mitsubishi Diamondtron tube CRT is still kicking since 1999.

The risk of dead pixels is my utmost fear. I'll keep my CRT until it no longer functions

What do you mean. LCD prices have halved over the past two or three years. You can easily get a gaming quality 17" for under $300 these days - i paid that much for a 19" CRT only a couple of years ago.

LCD prices have definitely dropped in the last two years. I remember when a 19inch was over 500 dollars and now they can be found for 199 with special deals. I wonder if CRT's will come with some kind of HDCP adaptor built in to the monitor itself when HD/Blue Ray come rolling out and people suddenly find no way to watch HD on their computers.

What the hell are you talking about? LCD prices have dropped dramtically in the past year.

A 50 pound monitor taking up an entire desk is not attractive to me. So I did what most reasonable people have done already and bought a flat panel. $300-350 for a 19" flat panel is really not that bad. Weren't they closer to $500 or so a little over a year ago?

I sure think the prices have dropped by tons. I remember when 17" LCD's were $500. I got my 17" LCD for $300 (lowest price point then. 15" were about $250 then). Now, the best I've seen was on Black Friday, 19" for $170 and 17" for $150.

I've noticed that if you want the cheapest LCD ever, then the bottom price hasn't been dropping because ever cheaper larger sizes obsolete the smaller screens. Who'd buy a 17" for $20 less than a 19", for example?

I think LCD prices are pretty reasonable as is. I paid $520 for my 20" widescreen a year ago, which was decent, but now they're even lower in the $300-400 range a lot of times. 17-19" LCD's are cheaper than that. They're not "cheap" in the sense that you can pick up a $79 LCD like you probably can with a CRT, but prices have come down a lot in recent years. I remember considering paying $550+ for a 17" LCD just over two years ago. Hell, I remember when the 2001FP came out towards the end of 2003 for $750 or so, and they were selling like hotcakes.

Never, as long as people are dumb enough to buy them at these prices, they will continue selling them this expensive.

You can easily get twice the max resolution out of a CRT than you can get out of LCD at the same price (assuming they are the same size screen.)

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE SMOKING CRACK.

So you spend the cash on a 7800GT, which will be worth almost nothing in a few years... but you don't spend a couple hundred on a decent LCD monitor?? Where's the logic in that?

The prices have fallen very sharply lately.

Just watch the hot deals forum and you can snag a deal on one. Unlike that 7800GT, which you can never get a deal on, because the prices are so outlandish.

I have a Dell 17" flat panel I got for $197 shipped direct from dell. I'm very happy with it. And it will not depreciate in value as your 7800GT will.
