When Teleportation becomes a reality, what would the Government do?

I believe that within 30 years we will develop the technology needed to teleport living things. Basically the Teleportation machine will analyze every particle in your body and will send that information at the speed of light to a remote place, to be reassembled. The machine will completely destroy the original being being analyzed, and the teleported being will be an "identical copy", with the same physical and mental characteristics. (same knowledge, memories, experiences, abilities, etc). The teleported copy will be perfect.

The obvious issue is that you are basically killed and a copy created elsewhere. If that machine existed now, I believe that no government would allow it's functioning due to the ethical issues.

In the future, the idea of life and existence might be different. Governments of the future might not see life like we see it today. They might consider that the benefits of teleportation outweigh the problems.

And the last issue, which is completely my own belief, is that Teleportation will prove that Religion was right: it will prove the existence of a soul, or something equivalent. Even though the machine teleports 'uman beings pefectly (every atom, every electron, every subatomic particle) the copy created on the other side will end up being either:

- A lifeless mass of flesh, bones, and organs.
- A living person, but with the mental capabilities of a chimp or other animal.

Would you allow to be teleported? Imagine one of your close relatives was teleported from a far away place to be close to you. Would you still see that person as your relative?

How many magic mushrooms did you consume before making this post? 30 years??? Unless aliens or god come down and give us this technology we wont be transporting a molecule let alone a person in 30 years.

Question: why the premise about whatever is being teleported being destroyed as it is scanned? Is this a necessary effect of analyzing it for teleportation, or is it an ethical "safety feature" to keep there from being 2, or 8, or 5000 Adam8281's walking around?

Think of a 'orrific scenario. We could have 2, or 8, or 5000 trolls walking around! These boards would be subjected to a nonstop assault of trolling. The 'umanity!

OMGWTF ? I'm putting that in my sig!

Go ahead. Spread the word.

You are a god among trolls 🙂

I am not a troll. Besides, I mentioned that the "soul" part is my opinion. I'm not trying to convince you it's true. What I'm wondering about is whether in a few decades something like teleportation will be seeing as something that doesn't interfere with the meaning of life. Something along the lines of "Oh, Teleportation is amazing. You get killed, but an exact copy of you appears somewhere else, so there is nothing wrong with it".

You understand Star Trek is fiction right?

Sorry. I don't watch Star Trek. I learned about Teleportation in non-fiction books.

which would those be?

'yperspace by Michio Kaku.
The Singularity is Near by Ray Kurzweil.

I can't find 'yperspace. Are you sure you are spelling that correctly?

Soul: It's a fictitious concept created by humans to try to make us feel important and immortal. We're just animals with big brains. Get over it.
If it were possible to duplicate every last subatomic particle in a person, you'd have a copy of that person, fully-functional in every way. His only way of knowing he was a copy would be the fact that an instant ago, he was on the other side of the room, looking at an empty teleporter pad. Now suddenly, by his perception, he's somewhere else, looking at himself on the other teleporter pad.

I think teleportation is possible right now, but only with individual subatomic particles, and only over short distances.

Teleporting a person would take an immense amount of energy - e=mc^2.
Your options would be:
- Scan every last subatomic particle in a person and then create a duplicate from energy reserves in some remote location. Problem: You now have a copy of the person.
- Scan the person, and somehow convert their body into energy, send that energy somewhere else, and have it turn back into matter. Problem: Matter likes being matter. Converting it into energy takes a lot of input energy to accomplish.
- And somewhere in there, invent the Heisenberg Compensator.

The easier solution would be my proposed "evolutionary path" for humanity - move toward artificial bodies and brains, androids. Then to send "yourself" somewhere else, you'd simply transmit your mind over a computer network, and then either take up residence in some kind of mainframe server, or else another android body. Take telecommuting to a whole new level.
I think that is a lot more easily-accomplished than teleporting a person. It simply requires significant advances in computing technology. Teleporting a person involves vast quantities of energy, and overcoming a few pesky laws of physics.

Holy crap, guys! Did you see this post Arcadio just made (http://forums.anandtech.com/me...2211755&enterthread=y). He said he's done with AT, and requested that he be banned?!!

Stop posting about not doing anything and DO something. Life is simply what we make it. It is your choice fully and completely. We have no right to use anyone or anything else as an excuse as to why we are wasting our life.

Thank you. Reps.

I'm out. Someone ban me forever please.

I would turn that feature off. Then I would make the copied me go to work. Actually I would make two or three copies and make them all get jobs and give me the money. Yes, just like Multiplicity. Then I would retire to Hawaii in luxury with a copy of Jalba.

I would abuse the system. If it is making a copy of myself, I would simply get scanned and teleport myself to every teleport machine a few times. Now there are thousands of me with the potential to create and infinite number. I can then take over all government agencies at the same time. I can also gain control of all the teleport machines. I can create an infinite number of soliders to aide in my cause, all armies will be crushed by my numbers. It doesn't matter if one of them dies, I've got thousands of them!
