When talking about RAM, is "double-sided memory module" the same as "Dual Channel" Kit System Memory?

I'm trying to figure out if I installed the memory correctly into my motherboard, and apparently how I orient my RAM into the DIMM slots will depend on the type of RAM I have.

Thanks!

double sidded memory basically means chips on both sides of the dimm. Dual channel means 2 completely seperate dimms. 2 very different things.

Oh! Ok... that makes sense.... so if my RAM is: CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit System Memory, is there any way I can tell whether this is single or double sided memory?

Would it really even matter if it is double sided? My guess would be yes since most 512's are like 16x32=512MBs with 8 on each side.

I can tell you that you CAN set that up in Dual Channel configuation which is faster than a singe channel mode.

The mobo i seledted for a build is an Asus K8N-E, it has three DIMM slots for DDR400 ram, however if two double sided sticks are used it reduces the speed from 400 to 333. It would seem that i cannot use two 512 s to attain 1GB without loosing the value of DDR400. Is that not correct?

Thanx

It shouldn't drop down to ddr333, maby that motherboard will, you can just set the speed back up to 200 in the bios to give you that ddr400, an AMD64 CPU can handle 2 dimms at ddr400, the only time an AMD64 cpu drops down to ddr333 is when there is 4 dimms in the RAM and even some mobo manufactures have found a way around this.
