when something happens in a reltionship, why is it "not your place" to tell someone?

that makes absolutely no sense to me. if you are being cheated on and someone else knows, why shouldnt they tell you? there is no good, sound logic for holding it back. if the other person is sneaky enough to hide it, not everyone will catch it. i think you are actually a bad friend/family member/whatever if you keep information from someone.

if you dont care whether or not someone cheats on you, then thats your set of morals. but, if you know someone is very against that, and they are in a semi-stable or stable relationship, why in the world would you not tell them since if they find out later on it would have been wasted time in a doomed relationship?

if my girlfriend was cheating on me, id sure as hell want to know ASAP so i could kick her in the teeth, i mean to the curb... (j/k about that btw :) )

Because, most likely, the person won't believe you (or doesn't want to believe you) and it can put a strain on your friendship, or even end it.

One of my old GF's husband was having an affair, her best friend chose not to tell her about it, GF found out eventually & found out her friend did not tell her, she was seriously pissed @ her friend not telling her & saving her a bunch of trouble.

It's easy to say that in hindsight, but would Pliablemoose's old gf have believed her best friend if her best friend told her? Depends on if she wanted to believe it or not...
