When someone says they have an unlocked cell phone, what does that mean?

locked means the phone can only be used with one provider.

<edit>
meaning he can use his phone with verison or Cingular.

not enough posts, i know, i only post when i am putting together a new system and buy cheap parts from people here. i go through the forums almost every day though

You can use it with most carriers that use the same type of network and such I believe. I know my T68 is unlocked and can be used with AT&T, Cingular, and T-Mobile.. not sure on other carriers though.

really?! do u have to pay for them too? damn i'm sooo fed up w/ tmobile's service....1000 minutes my arse...i get 500 cuz half of em are dropped calls or failed calls...friggn aye...

can i unlock my motorola v66?
edit: forgot...cingular and tmobile uses sim cards...so i guess i can't...

my phone uses 3 minutes for every 1 i talk, thanks to it's unlocked minute multiplier. it won't run stable at 4x though. ;)

Wait why would you want your phone to use more minutes than you talk? Wouldn't you want it the other way around? :confused::p
