I recently listened to Fresh Air's resident grammar curmudgeon (a local, Berkeley prof) ranting about the use of "no problem." Did OP hear a re-airing of this topic today?

also is it OK to say, "prof?"

Yup, I agree with the OP, "you are welcome" is the best answer. I also don't like "uh huh" or "sure" or "yup" or any other responses.

i never say "you're welcome" unless it's very formal....

My kids say Thanks and then Welks back to each other. Annoying, but that's what kids are for. For all I know that's what all the with-it kids are saying nowadays.

Had to call Dell today for someone's pc problem, the rep kept saying "i apologize" upon every item i mentioned that needed fixing.

Depends on the situation that statement was given. I've always answered back "You're welcome", not sure why "No problem" is being used by some people. :hmm:

Of course "It's been a pleasure" would be right after having sex. ()

Different meanings--

"No problem" - I recognize you are saying 'thank you' to be polite, maybe to not sound like you're giving me an order, but no thanks is necessary

"You're welcome" - I rightly deserve thanks, you have shown me it, and I recognize that

my responses vary depending on the situation. I'll use welcome, You're welcome, no problem, NP in chat/IM, my pleasure, or whatever if I'm somewhat annoyed.

Every once in a long while I'll say "No problem." but I was taught to use 'You're welcome." and it's well entrenched into me. Plus it's a defining part of being Canadian, like opening doors for ladies and not cutting into lines.^_^

I once was told that "No problemo." is racist.
