When someone holds the door open for you, please don't reach out and grab it

Pisses me off. :|

Seems like every person does this now a days. Happened three times today for me. One of them even said "thank you" and then proceeded to reach out for the door! If I spend the time to hold the door open for you, don't reach out and hold it open on your own. What is the point of me holding the door then?

/rant.

Pet peeve of mine :p

dunno... if anything... i think they're trying to return the favor by not making you hold it out any longer...

???

I grab the door so the person that opened it can go in first. From now on, i'll just walk by and shut the door behind me. :p

when i used to be a depressed little jackass I'd never hold open the door. None of my friends do, but I've developed that habit, and I get a lot of smiles, especially from older adults who think my generation has no manners. No one ever holds the door when i'm holding it, but people do occasionally not even say anything and i'll frown a little bit, but its nothing big to me.

edit: I misunderstood. Yeah when you hold the door, they say thank you, then proceed to hold the door its because they appreciate your gesture and have acknowledged it and are freeing you of your door holding job now

nah it's not so bad unless the person doing it is your date. I think maybe 1 female I know out of hundreds is aware that they are SUPPOSED to wait for me to close the door and open the inner door for them.

that seems like an inefficient usage of time... it would be better if you alternate door holding for successive doors.

Well, it doesn't really "piss me off" I just said that for reaction.:p

It is just annoying. Seems like to me that people do it as if I'm going to shut it in their face or something. I'm holding the door so that you can walk threw it. I'm not going to let go as you approach.

How about someone who eats pizza with a fork and fried chicken without physically touching any parts of the chicken(knife and fork only)?

The people who get me are the young women who look at you like you're a piece of dog sh!t for holding the door for them. Makes you want to slam it in their faces if you ever got another chance.

Not really a peeve, but just because I'm a one legged midget with a huchback doesn't mean they can't at least say thank you when I pinch their a$$es as they walk by.

well, if you're in a rush to get your evening over with, I don't see why'd you bother with etiquette in the first place :D

nah i just find the whole thing kind of awkward. like when the girl says thanks, but there are like 3 more doors to go through and she feels obligated to say thanks for every one. thanks thanks thanks thanks.

because you're likely in a rush to get out of there, eg. leaving the building and it is typical fashion for the next person to thank you and pass along the door holding chain to the next person.

If that's your attitude, I am going to beat the crap out of you because you just deprived me of my daily arm excercise. And I guess that will make up for the missed excercise that you unknowingly took away from me.
