When should you reset the CMOS?

Well I just had an annoying problem at start up, ''Checking nvram...update failed'' and it freezes, resetting CMOS fixed it. But is there other problems that resetting the CMOS will fix that I should know of for the future?

Thanks.

Ahh brings back the memories of getting that stable OC.

Set ram to 200mhz @ 280FSB...no boot, reset CMOS.
Set ram to 200mhz @ 270FSB...no boot, reset CMOS.
Set ram to 166mhz @ 335FSB...no boot, reset CMOS.
Set ram to 166mhz @ 330FSB...boot.
Set ram to 166mhz @ 330FSB w/ cas at 2.5...no boot, reset CMOS, lose damn CMOS jumper somewhere in computer case.
Repeat.

😛

Haha...i hate when that happens...my sound card is close to the jumper on the Neo2, & i have clumsy fingers, so i always have to get out the needlenose pliers...

Hmm you know ASUS has some boards with a feature that automatically resets clock defaults if OC is unsuccessful. Does DFI have something like that? Specifically the Ultra-D? 😀
