A little while ago, I saw the "Sex Change" special on the Discovery Channel where it showed people's lives pre- and post- sex change and how it affected the people close to them.
The (NOW) man on the special became involved with a woman after he had gotten a majority of his 'manly procedures' done. When he finally told her about his past, she remained very loyal and faithful. And she even mentioned how sexy he was and that's all that mattered... =?
The (NOW) woman on the special was married to a woman before the 'womanly procedures' (when she was still a man). After the initial shock of finding out the then-man felt more comfortable as a woman, she actually stuck around, became good friends with her former husband, and showed the (NOW) woman how to apply makeup and be more womanly...
I, personally, wouldn't be so adult about things. I would probably be more willing to salvage a friendship if the second instance occurred where a SO told me he wanted to become a woman than if my SO told me he was really born a she. If the first scenario occurred, I would definitely break up and blame it on the "lack of honesty" but secretly blame it on how disgusted I would feel.
which begs the question: HOW WOULD YOU HANDLE THIS IF YOU WERE PUT IN THIS SITUATION?
(Yes...I've been watching the Discovery Health Channel a lot lately...and yes, this post is probably really confusing and wordy because of all the he's and she's)
