I would prefer a hard surface. I imagine its much easier to clean.

Actually it just means you need to clean it more often, because you will notice every single bit of dirt, dust, crud or anything else that gets tracked in.
I think you missed the point. One strand of hair that fell off someone's head is clearly visible on virtually all hard flooring. Same goes for one piece of dirt or one dropped crumb. On most carpets, it is virtually impossible to see one loose hair, one piece of dirt, or one dropped crumb. Thus hardwood flooring looks dirtier and needs to be cleaned more often than carpet.Originally posted by: Sasha
How the heck do you conclude that? If someone comes to visit and brings a juice-spilling snot over how is that reflected, as an example, as someone's cleaning behavior? Also, I find it a heck of a lot easier to draw a broom across a hardwood floor than hault a vacuum from floor to floor in order to push/pull on it for cleaning. Personal preference? Sure, but its another example of why someone might like hardwood over carpet.

Replace look with feel and you get the same thing. You can feel a little dirt on a hardwood floor under your feet. You cannot feel dirt on a carpet.

All hardwood flooring if I was buying - I hate the look to wall to wall carpeting anywhere!
