When receiving a book as a gift....

This was always done when someone in my family gave a book as a gift. I received a bunch in my early years, but have never given a book as a gift until now.

For example, the inside cover would say, "Merry Christmas Johnny 2005, From Aunt Gertrude"

I'm getting my sister a journal....what would be something mushy to write on the inside cover? I'm thinking something like, "I wish you happy memories, blah blah..." Any ideas? Thanks,

-Scar

It really personallizes the gift and when the person finds the book on a shelf in 10 years, they'll pick it up and remember the good ole days. :p

I've gotten several books like that, I like it. Years later when you open that book again, you'll be reminded that someone loves you :)

if she's over 18 & u wanna be funny (& if it's appropriate for your relationship), u could write something like, "i expect these pages to be filled with exciting, fun-filled, racy moments. and i'll try my darndest not to read any of it." :p

If it's a journal, leave her an inscription later FTW.
Dear sis,

I didn't actually read your journal as you suspected on Oct 12, the morning after that keg party that you really don't remember.

Yours,

I did that with a stuffed animal once, wrote a nice little note on the belly of the animal, she loved it. Never books though.

Every book I've ever received as a gift had something written inside the cover. Ditto for every book I've given as a gift.

I would be extremely pissed off if someone wrote in a book and gave it to me.

It's for my sister....though I am from TN, we're both happily married to other people...so it needs to be clean. :p

i know it's for your sister (u mentioned that in the original post)...that's why i said if it's appropriate for your relationship...u've heard of brothers snooping in their sister's diary (usually happens when you're growing up/teenager phase) so they can blab to parents or use it as blackmail? i know, totally inappropriate in your case...especially since you both are married.

okay, in your case...your sister will appreciate anything you write in there. you had the right idea about mentioning happy memories. how 'bout something like "i hope writing in this journal brings you <you fill in the rest>..."

The only time i havent done that is when i bought someone a collectors, first edition printing. So, i put the note on a sticky inside the front cover. :)
