When people say, "Check this out this is really funny", does it detract from its actual humor?

I find that whenever someone wants to show me something funny, and they say, OMG OMG THIS IS THE FUNNIEST THING EVER YOU HAVE TO SEE IT, and when I actually see it, it's not funny at all. It may have been without all the "hype", but it's all ruined after that..

Had they say, HEY YOU SHOULD SEE THIS.., then the funniness is all back.

They just can't be nonchalant about it, and keep expectations low so at least a giggle is had by all.. oh no, they have to put asterisks around all capitalized letters to grab your attention, only to be let down :frown:

I thionk it does. Whenever no one else thinks somethin is funny, I have to go with 'well I guess you had to be there'

Most of the time yes...for me at least, this is because when someone says taht i'm expected to see or hear something so outrageous that it would make me fall on the ground laughing most of the time people's joke are just corny...
