Why in the hell is it so hard for them to admit that they made a mistake?

Just now, H&R Block called asking for 'Howard'. After informing him that he didnt live here, the guy proceeded to ask if i was 'sure' that he didnt live here. Hah! Yea, i think i would know... He then proceeded to explain to me how he dosent see how he could have gotten the wrong number....

My lord, give it up... You failed, try again....

Why cant people just say 'oops, sorry' and hangup?
