it's quicker to say "dow" just like it's quicker to say "sequel".

Wait, what? You want them to say "D A O" for DAO, but you want them to say "sequel" for SQL? I'm confused.

If someone said "dow" I wouldn't know what the heck they are talking about. I would ask them if that is some kind of Chinese food dish.

Also, if someone asked me to do something on 'kicks' I'd think they were talking about Jordans. And once I figured out they meant CICS, I'd just tell them no.

I don't mine 'SQL' or 'SEQUEL', but I go with SQL.

Nobody says 'ehjuhb' and they shouldn't say 'dow'.

i always think they are talking about the stock market! my coworkers talk about both stocks and DAOs all the time.

just say no to CICS is a good policy - i quit a job just to get away from it

"sequel server" <---- the right way

Nope. Wrong. Es kju el. It is an acronym the alternative already means something else. Nobody says the fuh bee is shutting down North Korea's internet. Nobody says Ray Rice should be banned from the nuh fla.

The right way? Who the heck made you the authority on this?

Regardless of whether or not the acronym for the lanuage itself is trademarked, we're now talking about the name a private product that's being marketed under a *brand*.

The developers that worked on the product pronounce it "sequel server".

It's "sequel server". That's the name.

....now if you're talking mySQL...that's a different story. Don't ask me why.

And for anyone wondering, yes I am the leading authority on this. (Self-proclaimed.)
