i agree. i am not a trekkie. i have watched the movies and episodes of the shows here and there, but i thought the movie was great. i enjoyed it and will watch it agian soon.

I've never seen any Star Trek movie or episode. I've always wondered if I would like it if I watched it...

Un fortunately the majority of movie go-ers are unable to keep their interests peaked if there isn't action and explosions every 30 seconds. The Original Star Trek (Kirk times) starship combat was like submarine combat. It was slow and methodical, fist fights were just that. fist fights with an occassional flying kick thrown in. Plot and story is 2nd now to action and special effects. We watch movies now and think WOW that was an awesome effect or explosion.
I don't even think about the effects when watching movies like Star Trek II or some other movies, because the effects are so well done you don't think about them.

I'm a huge Star Trek geek, and was very fearful of what they were going to do to this new movie, but I was pleasantly surprised. I wasn't really feeling Chris Pine as Kirk for most of the movie, but at the end he seemed more Kirk like.

I believe that's part of the story line - no one is who they really are because history was altered. Primary reason was to jump start the series again.

I think that movie seriously won the Razzies in worst actor, director, movie, and special effects in 1989. Nice work Shatner!

Which is exactly why it's the first trek movie in many years NOT to suck ass. Some of the recent ones have really been horrific, just stunning examples of sh*t.

Michael Okuda is responsible for ruining Star Trek. He fell into the "Make things go BOOM and people will like it!" trap, so by the mid-90's Trek turned into stories creative ways to shoot phasers and torpedos.

Seriously, watch ST II or ST VI, and then compare that to the last ST movie (with the "vampire Romulans").

I loved the new Star Trek movie.
The story was nicely contrived to allow things to be very similiar, but still allowed to reboot the series.
Since Kirk didn't have a father growing up in the new movie, he can be different from the Shatner Kirk.
Yes, the story wasn't great. Often introductory movies find it difficult to both introduce the characters and have a good plot.
What I particulary enjoyed was the subtle references to the original series. They didn't beat you over the head with it.

And, near the end there were a couple of shots of the new Kirk standing on the bridge, and sitting in the chair, where the actor expertly imitated Shatner.

Oh, and Uhura was WAAAAYYY hot.

I think you should be more concerned that Star Trek was filled with massive plot holes, as opposed to irrelevant head bumping.

I just watched it for the 4th time this year (twice in the theater, twice at home on bluray). On the 4th viewing all the plot holes finally sunk in to my brain. I was too busy enjoying the awesome to notice on the first 3 views.

The thing that gets me is the mid-warp "beaming" thing. If the ship was rocketing back to Earth at maximum warp (for the time) and then they caught up in an instant, wouldn't that be faster than the fastest warp speeds? If you know Trek, this has SERIOUS ramifications... like becoming fully evolved newt-like human complete with external gills and being stupidly unable to even *look* away from a phazer (some "highly evoloved" human-lol mirite?). Whatever happened to being on a similar evolutionary course to The Q?
