How the hell can "strictly less than four pages" be construed to mean "you can have 4 full pages of text"? :disgust:

The answer is, it can't!

OP, if the prof or teacher wanted you to write 4 pages or less, they would have instructed you to "write 4 pages or less"!!!

The highest amount that is "strictly less than 4 pages" is 3 pages!!

Why else would the instuctor use the word "strictly"?
Like I said a page isn't an integer unit. Kind of like how saying some one is less the 6 feet tall means they can be 5.9 feet tall. It doesn't mean they are 5 feet tall.

Because page measurement are not very accurate no one is going to complian that a paper is 4 pages, any additional characters end up on the next 5th page, when they say less then 4 pages.

Remember, 2 sheets of paper = between 1.000001 and 2 pages of written text. 3 sheets of paper = between 2.000001 and 3 pages of written text. And so on.

So "strictly less than 4" is anywhere between 3.000001 and 4 pages of written text.

I sure would like to know what the prof says when asked what he/she meant. You'll let us know, won't you OP?

I think it means to have the common sense to ask your professor to clear it up before you leave the class.

4 Pages Maximum, no minimum.

Just write one word and turn it in :p (if you get a F, take it up with the Prof saying that he didnt mention a minimum :D)

if he says he meant between 3 and 4, then you can argue on tenicality saying that "LESS THAN 4 means" between negative infinity and 3.99999999..9999... ;) (this should be an easy A :p)

well think about it this way, wouldn't 'strictly less than 1 page' be a valid statement? That would be between 0 and 0.9999 pages. therefore its between 3.0 and 3.9999 (but not repeating) pages
