When is VIA going to release a chipset that doesn't need a new driver every month?

I bought a Abit KT7 Raid (VIA KT133 based) a couple months ago and it is starting to get on my nerves. First It wouldn't work with my MX300 or Sound Blaster 16pnp, so I bought a CL Live Xgamer. Last week I bought a Elsa Gladiac GTS based card and its having problems.

Why in the hell can Intel make a chipset like the BX 440 that is stable and compatible with everything without the need for a patch or drivers, but VIA needs a damn patch every month just for new components? A couple of years ago I could understand that it has to do software/hardware being made directly for Intel products, but that isn't the case now. Last I checked AMD has 36% of the CPU market and rising.

Its just plain rediculous!

I guess you where unlucky. I'm using the Via drivers v. 4.25A and I've got no problems what so ever! And no compatibility problems either.

Exactly, you had to use an up to date driver for everything to work correctly! The majority of BX based motherboard will work fine performance and compatibility wise using the original driver that Win98 included. That is what I was trying to point out!

Please someone tell me that they are using any modern cards on a VIA based system with a driver older than 2 years. You just aren't going to find one!

I would be surprised if anyone is using drivers older then 2 years on ANY BOARD, the fact is nowadays you need latest drivers for any product you have. It`s no big deal ,unless you are one of those guys that like to try all the beta(leaked)drivers that come out,I just stick to official drivers & have yet to have a problem with my MSI K7T Pro board & yes it`s more stable then my old LX board 😉

Well I dont think they are doing all that bad considering the amount of new chipsets and the new Win Me/2k/DX problems they are contending with. I still cant believe they stuff everything from mvp3 to the 133's all in one. I just hope I dont download one that messes up more than it fixes.😉 Should we start a pool on when we see 4in1 29?

First, you must realize that Intel is in bed with Microsoft. I mean, Windows is optimized for use on an Intel chipsets motherboard. This will continue, as Intel owns more of the PC market share. Second, the latest VIA chipsets are newer than the current operating systems. Thus, they require additional drivers to work properly. This is also true with newer Intel chipsets. Finally, drivers provided my the manufacturer are usually faster and more stable than Microsoft generic driver.

Jug, I have NEVER had a problem with the via drivers that come with Microsoft OS's. They are usually more stble and slightly faster that VIA's. MOst of the time, people are installing the wrong version of VIA's drivers.

I only install official Via 4 in 1 Drivers, the same thing for my graphics card with my Win98 OS1,I guess that`s why my system is rock stable.
