When is this 533 thing coming out?

Itching for a new PC but I see this new 533 bus technology is coming soon.

Anyone know when it's coming and what Intel and what AMD chips are supposed to be out by then?

533 only works with Intel chips?

What ram to use?

Thanks

The 533mhz bus that you are referring to is Intel's bus only. It runs at 133mhz and is quad-pumped giving it and effective 533mhz of bandwith. It will be out this quarter (Q2) and will perform best when paired with a RIMM4200 module. That is the new Rambus memory that operates at 1066mhz over a dual-channel 16-bit bus.

my next computer will be based on this. I'm hearing May 6, anybody can confirm? Of course itll be a few weeks till manufacturers can produce out decent boards and some ppl can test em (i'll probably build mid-June)

I am allready at 533.😉

My 2.133ghz was sold as a 1.6ghz, that's all . 😀

exactly.....what is the big deal when so many people are already doing 533 with the 1.6 and 1.8A's ?? is the new 533 gonna be any different??? ohh and will the current boards such as the P4T-E support the new chips

awww man mid-June?

Hard to wait that long - I just got DungeonSiege and Jedi Knight II and my current sytem is officially a FOSSIL. 🙁

Is this wham-bam new technology gonna result in a big price increase?? Hope not

Of course the 533 will start with a price premium, but in a few months the premium will be almost eliminated (after Intel cuts around July). In late May, the 533 MHz fsb is supposed to be priced at the level the current price of the 400 fsb processors (including today's price cut). The overlapping 400 MHz fsb P4's that have the same stock speed as the new 533 MHz fsb P4 will be slashed in prices once again to separate the two. So at the end of May I think you will see prices like this:
2.0 4000 MHz fsb for $160
2.0A 400 MHz fsb for $180
2.0 533 MHz fsb for $280

The big deal is how high the 533 chips might OC. Imagine if the 2 GHz 533 fsb P4 overclocked to 666 fsb (2.5 GHz) - which cost just a bit more than what you paid for your 1.6A.

Nope. won't happen. 20 x 166 is 3.3 ghz and that my friend is a 40% overclock. Not in this life time without liquid helium (sp) cooling...air cooling not a chance...

Nope. I will take that bet. Brand new 533's will be a significant premium over there 400mhz fsb bretheren.

Well the reason i am anticipating the 533 release is that with the improved yeilds the overclockability of 2.0A chip is gonna go up. I would luv to buy a 2.0A chip for under $200, couple it with 1066 RDRAM and a 533 Mobo (to avoid these being the limitiing factor) and try and hit 150 Mhz (can u say 3.0 GHz 😀)

Won't the 2.0 GHz 533 fsb P4 run at 15*133 MHz = 2000 MHz. Thus an overclock to 166 fsb will be 15*166 = 2500 MHz - leading to a 25% overclock. I agree that 3.3 GHz will not be reached anytime soon. If I'm wrong with the fsb numbers, who cares, the 2.5 GHz speed should be still easilly obtainable. I'd be shocked if you couldn't get a 25% overclock with better memory. But at this point until we get our hands on the part, who knows how high it will go.

As I said in my post above, I expect the 533 to carry an initial premium. However by the end of summer, the premium will be nearly gone. The 1.6 and 1.8 GHz parts will be nearly phased out leaving the 2.0 GHz parts around $160 - about the same that you paid for your 1.6A. At the release, the price premium won't be worth it to me, but the premium won't stay forever.

3rd party web sites show that the 533MHz FSB Pentium 4 Northwoods will be arriving during the month of May. They also indicate that it will be anywhere between mid-to-late May.

Most likely, you won't have an actual 533MHz FSB Pentium 4 in your hands until late May/early June.
