When is there likely to be a PC tech boom?

Hia All!

Im a gamer but with recent events I wont be able to dump $100s of dollars every few months on upgrades. So I've decided to stop for 2+ years, and focus more on my school studies + my band + job.

I've got an alright system now (2G Ram, 4200X2, 7900GTX, 2ms LCD moni, g7 mouse, g15 keys).. But In the next 2-3 years or so, I will be dumping this system for spending around 3-4k for a completly new one.

I was wondering if any techno watchers expect any sort of 'techno boom' within that time. Like the 10800 nivida's or a researched processor nearing end of development, or a super sleek lcd monitor that does a better job than a crt, etc. I've built dozens of pc's in the past, would it still be a better choice to build? or better with a company that will provide warrentys etc?

Just wondering if I should be expecting anything when the time comes :)

I am not spending a dime on PC hardware until at least 2010. :) By then we will have sub-45nm CPUs and I will build a new system at that time.
