When is the right time to lock in natural gas rate?

My choices are:

variable @ $1.21

6 month fixed @ $1.03
12 month fixed @ $1.00

Thoughts? I have no idea what a good rate is, I'm assuming it's cheapest in the summer - so I'm thinking about doing the 6 month fixed and renegotiating next year..

the summer is usually cheaper. but hell i would jump on the 12 mont fixed at $1 thats fucking cheap!

hehe over the summer we were offered $4 a gallon locked in rate. we passed but many around here did it. now they are paying $4 a gallon until june and i just paid $ 1.89 to fill up LOL

Frankly, since there is only 3 cents difference between 6 months and 12 months and typically, the summer times yield lower rates, I'd do the 6-month for the added convenience of being able to renegotiate during a time that may grant lower rates.

I think my last bill was ~0.61 per therm. I've never locked in and I'm pretty sure it's saved me money.
