september. notice how the back to school promotion conveniently ends right around then. apple is very smart to give out the current nanos and ipod touch right now, so then they can sell even more new generation nanos and ipod touches to everyone else, and possibly to the people who got the old one for free.
basically the "confirmed" upgraded specs are probably going to be a camera, faster cpu/gpu (like the 3GS), and double the memory for each price. software-wise, 3.0/3.1 will be standard on it. they could also throw in a mic and other goodies, but maybe they want to save it for the 4th generation ipod touch.

Well the existing one has a speaker already, so at this point you just need a mic and you have a nice little VoIP device.

I'm hoping to God that google voice comes to Canada soon. Only very recently have VOIP/SIP services offering Canadian phone numbers started operating here. iPod Touch + google voice + VOIP/SIP = bye bye cell phone.

It would be nice to get Skype here in Canada, officially anyway. The CRTC's reasoning for blocking it on the iPhone is incredibly stupid. No 911? But it's a cell phone, it already has 911! It's more like Rogers didn't want it. Nice blog you have BTW.

Well other VOIP companies have the e911 service, so really it's just skype being lazy and not doing it. That's why skype can't offer phone numbers in Canada. The second issue is you can't actually get skype for iPhone in the Canadian app store due to some codec-related patent issue.

The e911 issue was what I heard about originally. The patent thing is news to me.
