AKA Springdale. Also, will pc2100 DDR offer enough bandwith for said platform? It should give you a theoretical 4.2Gb/s which I believe is more than current RDRAM system. I ask because I already have 4 256MB DDR sticks lying around from when they were dirt cheap.:D

FYI, PC1066 offers 4.2Gb/s of bandwidth. I'm fairly sure we won't see Dual Channel DDR from Intel before 2003. SiS or Via may have something out before Intel, but I'd stick with the Intel chipset myself. Sorry I dont have any better info.

;) DDR-II and dual channel DDR are coming ever closer, DDR-II will be pretty expensive and scarce but DC-DDR should be VERY fast and VERY cheap too! It could be anything from a month to 12 months so I wouldn't advise waiting, it never truly benefits you. In any case RIMM's days are numbered, DDR400 should equal PC1066 while even DDR266 dual channel should kill PC1066 dead!

I already have a decent system, an athlonXP 1800+, and am using 2 of my 256MB sticks. The other two are just lying around, obselescing. I really don't think its worth it to buy a new board just to make use of the extra RAM as the performance difference isn't that huge most of the time(only when video editing or editing really large photoshop files would I use it). Plus, its not registered DDR, so I don't think I could use it in any 4 slot mobos for the Athlon. I am a sales rep at best buy, and intel does their x-mas special every year and I was contemplating whether to go with that. Last year it was a 1.7Ghz P4 with i850 mobo for $200, and I was hoping that there was a chance that springdale might be out in time that they may offer a board based on that chipset this year. Has Intel put an official date on their roadmaps for this chipset?
