When is the best time to buy new system

Hello,

Hope you can take the time to help with me with a few decisions / questions - first off thanks for reading my mail.

I am looking to buy a new personal machine and need to get the best system -- period. I don't want to build my own and don't need to; I've narrowed my decision down to an Alienware system but don't know when to buy.

Right now they have a FX-53 system with a Radeon X800 XT Plat Pro card available. This is a nice machine but I'm afraid if I buy it, it will be eclipsed really soon by a system with the FX-55 or better processor and or the introduction of PCI-Express cards & motherboards.

If I want the best of the best systems, should I go for the system I describe above (NOW) or wait for a better processor and or PCI version of the same video card? Do you have any idea how long my wait will be...weeks, months, more than 6 months, more than 12 months?

Alienware is also making ALX systems which will be dual processor dual PCI-E video card systems, but there is no real info on when those will be available either.

I don't want buyers remorse if I buy something and then a month or so later something much better comes along. I also don't want to wait for more than few months, 6 at the most.

any help is appreciated.

Chris

are you sure alienware is shipping the X800XT already? its not the X800 pro?

The best system period is from VoodooPC the RAGE F:50.

First they have a totally silent system which runs the best hardware. Second you can call them and speak to someone who has a clue. Third thier support and BBS is modded and answered by the owners. Forth they make special requests.

what will the socket 939 give me?

and yes, Alienware is shipping the X800 XT Plat Pro now... it came online yesterday. I spoke with their sales team today and it is shipping now. If you configure a new one online it will give you a 14 day build time, but I was told today that is a worst case scenario and that systems are actually shipping in the standard 7 day build timeframe.

See for yourself, alienware.com.

thanks the the input.

according to some EARLY and rather unconfirmed benchmarks, there seems to be a nice little performance boost

Beg to differ.. I have a quote from VoodooPC, and the F50 is an active heat synch and requires a completely open space to disipate heat, and that system does not even offer the FX-53 chipset..so I'm not sure how it can be the best if it doesn't even offer the latest and greatest CPU.

We use Alienware as our dev stations - I'll argue they are just as fast and are actually more reliable.

But hey these are all just opinions.

My key qyestions - are when is the FX-55 coming out - is that socket 939 and what about PCI Express? Are those in the next few months, weeks, years?

All boutique builders are there to make a substantial profit. But thier service and support are worth it if you're looking for that sort of thing. My first comp was a voodoo and I talk to the owner for two hours on how to Ghost and fresh install. He walked me though it all. Keep in mind that case is $1200.

If you have the jack ($$), get it now. If you buy Alienware or VoodooPC you have the money to burn. Go for it. As for me, I buy value. Let us know what you do. Either way the technology and performance will be of interest.
