When is the best time to buy a bike?

I want to buy a prebuilt bike from a bike store. When would they start reducing prices on the current 03 models?

Is it possible to buy a decent mainly road/packed dirt road bike for $400? Mountain bike tires are killing my ass on my ride to work, buzzz...buzzzz, all I hear, probally much more resistance too.

get some endurance, i used to mountain bike 15-20 miles a day on a full suspension bike and loved it. this is healthier for you.

you can but tires for road/hard pack for a MTB. really dpenends on what bike you want and what teh demand for them is

Around labor day is usually a great price slashing time. You can wait longer and the prices may get cheaper but you your choices of sizes will be reduced a great deal.
