when is swap file used?

i'm not exactly sure when swap file is used. Lately i've had a problem with getting the BSOD in win2k and i believe it has to do with my friend downloading 500+mb files from my ftp. We were both thinking it was related to swap file size and if i increased it maybe things would help. Right now it is set at 384mb, win2k recommends 381mb... so i haven't changed anything.

when i download files of the same size i get no errors, just when im uploading. maybe something to do with the ftp program?

all the time.. what u can do is set it to 0, reboot, defrag drive and reset another swap file..

do you think not having a swap file large enough could account for system crashing in win2k?
