Made my first purchase ebay a week ago today, which i was pretty psyched about.

The guy is in California and claims he received my payment the night I won the auction. Shipping was free, and USPS priority mail. I'm not sure if it's standard or not, but it said it would be shipped at the most 3 days from the receipt of payment, and would take 5-6 days to get to me.

It's been a week now (granted, i don't count the weekend in that) and i haven't received a tracking number.

Should i be concerned?

How much feedback does he have?

How much did you spend?

What did he say when you asked about it today?

After 7 days email
After 1 day of no response email again
After 1 day of no response email again
After 1 day of no response file a claim

I got boatloads of feedback and it's SOP to never email tracking numbers unless requested and emails are responded to within 30 hours.

90, with 100% postitive.

$186

He hasn't messaged back yet.

I wouldnt be concerned then, atleast not yet.

A lot of ebay sellers are slow as hell to reply. And as LTC8K6 said, Priority doesnt have a tracking number usually. Plus its far from reliable when it comes to a scheduled delivery

USPS has delivery confirmation, not exactly tracking. But you can bet that the guy bought it, otherwise there is no proof of shipment/delivery. I usually don't email the number to the buyer unless they specifically ask for it, so don't be worried you don't have one. The no answering is another story though

Would it indicate whether or not the item has been shipped though?

If he shipped thru Paypal, you would have received email notification.

And if he didn't, he's supposed to mark "shipped" on his activity screen, and so you'd be able to see that also.

I'm looking at his page and seeing feedback from the past couple of days from numerous people so that's kind of reassuring. Just got a wee bit nervous.

Item still has not shipped. The purchase was made almost two weeks ago.

The seller messaged me last friday telling me that the item would ship today with tracking number, and I've seen and heard nothing yet.

Also, a negative feedback popped up on his page, stating that the item sent was a fake (an item similar to mine.)

What action should i take now?

When you're filling out the customs form at the post office and you get to the part where you have to indicate where you're sending it to and you ask the clerk how to spell "Nigeria", and realize that Chris Hansen did more than a show about catching pedophiles, but also one about online credit card scams.

By then I think it would be a clear indicator that you should probably file a complaint with ebay. Just my guess.

Now is the time to file a dispute.

Did the auction say item will ship within XX days or something along those lines?

Yes, within 3 days of receipt of payment, which i sent the night of the auction. 5-6 days after that.

What's the reasoning behind this? To me it would just be courtesy to let my buyer know I shipped.
Just wondering.

I'm lazy and my 100% perfect glowing feedback means that you will get your item in a timely manner.

Anyone who cares enough will email to followup, those that don't care are happy when they receive their item.

net win for me. I DO email tracking #'s for anyone who spends > $250 & USPS automatically emails tracking #'s for anyone who pays for priority shipping.

Is it kosher to warn the user that if they don't set it straight that I'm going to open a claim?

less talk more file

followed by a note that says

"just looking for a tracking #, will close the dispute when I receive item"

sends seller the following message:

"STOP FUCKING AROUND AND GIVE ME MY SHIT NOW, but I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt that you're not a scamming piece of shit"
