When is it okay for a guy to cry?

The last time i "really" cried was when i was 14. I don't really like to display my inner emotions. Last week i got into a bad road accident, was dragged along the road at a speed of 60 kph and cut and bruised myself all over. The bleeding was quite intense, but i did not cry. Not a single tear.

However today i was watching a romantic movie that had a sad ending, where the guy kills himself for his girlfriend.(The name of the movie was Aashiqui 2, its a Bollywood movie, look it up if you want to). In a final scene, the girl sits on a beach staring into the horizon thinking about the guy, and that scene+background music had me in tears. I did not weep or howl, but yes my eyes were wet and there was a lump in my throat.

So was this okay? Is it okay to cry to sometimes, or is totally unacceptable for a guy to cry, no matter what the situation is? If i was watching this movie with a girl, would my crying had left a negative impression on her?(Would she think of me as a pussy?)

Whats your opinion?

Hell yes its o.k... I feel sorry for guys who can't for whatever reason. I'm not a big baby, but I probably cry over something a half dozen times a year.

When someone takes your 18yr malt, and puts it in a glass of Coke. After you dry the tears, you beat them about the head and neck with your blackthorn stick.

Yup, i've seen this too. A lot of guys think that they would be considered gay or something if they cry. For some weird reason they act like they have to constantly "prove" their masculinity in front of others. Never got it either...

When you have to have the vet put down a pet you've had for years, or your mother dies in a car wreck two weeks before your high school graduation has been the only times for me.

The Scotch thing might do it too.

I embellished a little. I have had someone put my 12yr in Coke though. Pissed me off, and I learned not to put good whisky out in mixed company.

Sort of related...

I was at the in laws once for Xmas, and a family acquaintance was there. Think blue collar type crowd. I had taken a couple bottles with me, and this guy says he wants to do a shot. I'm thinking "A shot, eh?". "Ok, see what you think of this..." I poured him a glass of cask strength Laphroaig. That ~$5 was well worth it for the look on his face. He didn't want anymore after that :^D

I'm blue collar and I still wouldn't do that :)

It's varied a bit over the years, I should be an engineer by now if I wasn't a bit lazy about it over time, I just lack the paper more or less I imagine.

The mixing I mean.

Good story.

My thoughts are that it's ok for a guy to cry for inside pain, but not outside pain. If your dog dies or your wife leaves you... it's ok. If you stub your toe or break your arm... not ok.

I almost shed a tear when I had to have my toenail removed after I dropped a weight on it. Very painful

I cry quite a bit over sentimental thoughts or scenarios.
Topics like family, love, loss, etc.

It can be a commercial on TV, or a woman singing.
Just thinking about how lucky I am to have a great wife and beautiful baby can make me cry.

When I had to put down my dog after 16yrs I cried for days.

When I had to put my cat down, I balled like a little bitch.
I watched some stupid Christmas video where an airline gave away free stuff, got all kinds of misty.
If I ever see "Taking Chance" on tv, I have to watch it. Every time I watch it, I lose it.

There is nothing wrong with a grown man crying. Unless your goal in life is to be a sociopath, then by all means suppress your feelings.

Wow - I thought everyone knew that you need to wait till the ice cubes in the glass melt before drinking

The only time I can remember crying over physical pain was a particularly awful gout attack 4 or 5 years ago. It's the only time my children have seen me cry. Thank God that's under control and I haven't been afflicted in 2 years.
