When is Intel coming out with their M desktop chips?

I have heard that Intel is abandoning the MHz war (probably old news to you guys) and going with desktop versions of their current Pentium M (low Mhz, high performance) cpus that are used in notebooks usually accompanying "Centrino" option. Anyone know? I know Intel is scrapping Prescott and even cancelled the next roadmap cpu's in favor of the M technology. Can anyone clear this up for me? Thanks a lot.

I'm not exactly sure what cpu you're waiting for, but the first really exciting new CPU from Intel (since the P4C) will probably be something called 'Conroe', I believe.

This will be a x86-64 processor. Will be dual core and it will feature technology emphasizing performance, rather than GHz. The guess is they will start from the Centrino, but I've heard they are really going for a lot of new technologies incorporated in this chip. It will probably be available early 2006. Possibly late 2005. So it will roughly coincide with AMD's desktop dual core AthlonFX and K9.

As I've understood it, this is the successor to the Prescott now. So somehow Intel have to survive on their Prescott until then. Lucky thing AMD doesn't have hyperthreading yet, or things might look really bleak.

I think the architecture they were going to focus on was "Dothan?". Yes, lower clockspeed but greater performance. I have heard the name "conroe" but nothing of its details. Thanks for your reply though.
Intel is getting nowhere fast (at least to the public's eyes) and need to get as far away from prescott as possible. I heard they even dumped Tejas, the successor of Prescott, which is a good thing.
