When is Athlon XP 2000 expected?

the reason I asked was that I was waiting for it to be come available so the prices of the lower models would drop some giving me some extra cushion on money to upgrade some other parts on my planned pc.

Do you think it should be out before new years for sure?

well I was talking more about an official release, which would trigger a drop in the prices of the 1800 and 1900, the ones i was wanting to buy. heh 🙂

Available at the end of January probably (ie: possible to get it deivered, not just 'listed')

I think a 1.67GHz Athlon XP 2000+ will be available in retail channels well before that time. I'm guessing just after X-mas or right at the launch of Northwood in early January.

I was referring to when I thought they would be available in the UK AGodspeed.

At the moment, the 1900+ is listed at major e-tailers, but they all have long lead times. In my experience, that means about 2 weeks at least.

OK so perhaps the 2000+ will be available mid-January, but not sooner for those of us in the UK.

i'm planning on building my computer early christmas break, probably mid december. So i'm assuming it won't be available by then, do think then that the 1700 is the best buy as of right now?

Once the 2000+ comes out, yes, the 1700+ will probably be the best bang for the buck out there.

I see. Most of us refer to the U.S., sorry though. 🙂

I know, I'm just stubborn 🙂

I'd say its about 3 weeks to a month difference between new hardware releases in the US and the UK. Even then the new stuff in the UK matches the dollar price... (which means we pay about 1.6 times more for the latest hardware) 🙁

Nevermind eh 🙂

i always sugguest you factor in shipping when you look at the best deal for processors.

and how much you want the extra speed

just my 2 cents

Soon as my Alpha 8045 shows up. 😛

Seriously though, if you don't want to wait get an xp1600 or 1700+ and unlock it.
If you don't want to unlock get an Athlon MP, same as the XP but it's unlocked and supports multiprocessor.
