When installing a new MOBO, should I flash the BIOS prior to installing the OS?

I am building a new system and I have an MSI K8N MOBO Model# MS-7125-BULK. I want to flash the bios to update the board. Should I go ahead and install my OS then flash the board or is it better to flash it before I install the OS?

If you don't need the new BIOS, then don't flash it at all. If you do need it, flash it before installing Windows if possible since some BIOS updates will change the way hardware in the system is identified and that could potentially cause problems with the Windows installation.

Thanks Fardringle. Ya, I want to update the BIOS. Due to the fact that this is not a "retail" MOBO, the current BIOS is stripped down (limited features) and has an odd splash screen.

I always bench test a new mb before putting everything together in the case. I also flash the bios (if necessary) and make all of the initial settings at that time as well.
