When in a car accident that is not your fault, does it go on any record?

DMV records and such? I got into a accident a few months back when the other vehicle got a ticket for running a red light. I received not ticket of course. Does this reflect off my license in anyway? Should I even mention it to my insurance company or a new insurance company when I decide to switch?

In california the accident will show on both driver's records, but doesn't show who's responsible for the accident. If you switch insurance companies, and you don't have anything from the old insurance company stating that the accident was not your fault, the new insurance company will assume the worst.

is that right? ...do you have the opportunity to prove later on that it isn't your fault?

I currently have an accident on my record for which I wasn't at fault. I was rear-ended at a stoplight, and received $900 from the other driver's insurance. The other driver's insurance company notified the DMV and my insurance company of the accident. Since that point in time, I've switched insurance companies, and my new insurance company is charging me for the accident on my record. I told my insurance agent that I was not at fault, and he instructed me to contact my insurance company from the time of the accident and ask for proof that the accident wasn't my fault. If I can get proof from them and give it to my new insurance company, my rates will decrease as if the accident wasn't on my record.

I still have to get that peice of paper prooving I wasn't at fault.

My brother got hit in a parking lot in CA and it affected his insurance. OH, BTW, the car was parked, turned off and he was loading groceries in the trunk.

I would be interested in hearing if your insurance company would prorate you for the extra insurance you paid. I would be pissed if they charged me double for that saying that its because of the accident and then not credit me back the extra $$$.

Insurance companies suck. They made my girlfriend pay 1800 up front for a years worth of coverage just because she hasn't had insurance in her name before.

How about a police report stating it wasn't my fault? Do I have to ask my old insurance company?

Most insurance companies now are switching to incident style reporting. It doesn't matter if it's your fault or not, it's reported as an incident, and that tells insurance companies that you are a risk, therefore raising your insurance.

I need someone "removed", but don't want it tied to me in any way. Think whitehacker can get that done?

wow, i didnt know this. i will have to call and see how many accidents are listed on my report, i was rear ended last year, my insurance went down in price but i did not switch companies, nor did i report it to my insurance company after i was hit.

Not sure what the other person did or didn't do but i know my insurance wanted 500 to do anything for a accident my fault or not, so i dealt only with the other persons insurance and maybe 2,400$ in my pocket later it was done and two nice marks on my back bumper. I have even received tickets for more than 20mph more than limit each year still the price is dropping each year. (but i try to extended each ticket the full amount of time to help space them out)

When I was with State Farm we would run a MVR and it would state if the accident was at fault or not. We didn't count the not at fault incidents when reporting an application to underwriting.

Insurance companies will find every excuse to raise your rate. I still have a piece of document that I have to send to any potential insurance company I want to go with because of an accident that MY BROTHER got into while traveling for work. At the time, we were living at the same address but we have our own policy with the same insurance company. Somehow the insurance company decided to ding me for the accident too. It's absurd how they can get away with doing this shit.

Yet another reason why I'd never move to this FUBAR state.
