When I was 12, I was worried about not missing the bus to school, not getting to a bail hearing

Looks like you live in the most violent 3rd world nation in the world. You should probably move south. :D

Seems to be bad everywhere these days but it's gotten super bad here. We used to be a stereotypical "nobody locks their doors in Canada" city and now we are basically the Detroit of Canada.

We even make the list of most dangerous cities in Canada lol.

Add an electrified fence, moat, and 24/7 video surveillance on your off-the-grid property.

Hopefully you won't have to leave once you get settled in and can avoid all the ruckus of humanity.

I hope you were actually worried about missing the bus to school - rather than about not missing it.

If it is so bad why don't you move?

I plan on it, bought acreage away from the city but have a lot of work ahead of me so won't happen overnight. Only so much time to work on the build and can only get to it in summer. Kill two birds with one stone, protect myself from inflation by eliminating most of my bills, and get away from the ever increasing crime. I will need to find a different source of income once I do move there though. Some kind of WFH gig or something.

I've put crazy amount of work into this house and still have projects ongoing though, so it's kind of hard to just throw all that away and move but when the new property is ready and I feel time is right I will.

Unfortunately, you'll still have to read about poor people doing stupid things on the internet.

You can print pamphlets and do IT for your new neighbor cultists out in the woods.

I'm starting to get the feeling you are kicking the can down the road, and I, for one, am disappointed. Why keep upgrading your home when society is crumbling around you as we speak? Crime is nuts, you gotta lock your doors now! Since you stated that us men down here in liberal areas are being forced to use women's bathrooms, I mean that stuff happens fast. It's coming to you sooner than you think. Pretty soon you might be forced to see a woman naked, and we don't want that to happen! You might procreate! So get to it.

Have you done a survey of your land? Started to draw up plans? What is going on here? Why are you even worried about your water meter at your home when you are going to build a fully sustainable shangri-la on your off the grid dream plot? It's like you've done nothing for it and are more focused on your home which is, last time I checked, on the grid. That's bad.

Listen if Twitter can be run in a 2,000 square foot shed, going off the grid can't be that hard. Besides a little clearing, some plumbing, electric and all those greenhouses and chicken coops so you can sustain yourself should be a walk in the park.

When you do it, please livestream and sell subscriptions to watch. I know I'd pony up some money to see it happen, so I can make plans for my apocalyptic escape and bunker too. I need to learn from the best.

Is this place cut off by the weather all winter?!

Not plowed, but once I move there I'll get equipment to plow it or even talk to the contractor that does the first part of the road to see how much it would cost to go further but probably a crazy amount of money. Be a while before I can actually move there though, so I'll figure it out when I'm more ready. I'm better off just sticking to where I am now until things are 100% set up. I will probably get a skidoo at some point so I can go in winter to do work on it though but it means leaving the truck behind which I don't like to do in case it gets vandalized or stolen. I'd want to skidoo back to it every day to clear snow off of it and move it around so it does not look like it's been there for a while, for what it's worth.

Sometimes we don't even get our first big snow until Christmas so that still gives me a few months extra where I can still drive straight there though but basically Decemberish to May or even mid June it's inaccessible by regular vehicle depending on how much snow we get that year. Sometimes we get our first snow early like November too. Very hit and miss. We don't get as much snow as we used to though, I've seen it where it's mostly melted by May so it really depends on the year.

No current road access for a chunk of the year either? This is new information. Whatever I would have paid to see this live streamed I'll pay triple now.

I know. According to squirrel men are being forced to share bathrooms with women. And probably the gays too. Crazy.

Please spread the word it's a shit hole here. We need it.

Trust me we're way more than full with apocalypse lovers here. Real estate prices are crazy here and have been for years.

I know what you mean. I've been warning people about Arizona's scorpions, rabid roof rats, and smelly old people for years but people keep coming.

I think last year we might have actually had a net loss of population when it comes to people moving in versus moving out. But housing is still insane and prices are nuts so until they start having sensibles zoning laws and build more mass transit i prefer if we lose people each year.

Word. I once pulled a tag off a mattress back in 70s.

lol

More seriously though, juvenile court is confidential and "buried" to the public, so whatever crimes you do, as long as it isn't something like murder, is "unseen" outside of the system. The punishments that do get handed down are relatively light if, again, the crime isn't so egregious like murder. Civil torts, on the hand, are not as forgiving in terms of "less able or naive" escaping that system, i.e don't think claiming insanity will let someone escape money damages even though the person could escape criminal conviction.
