When I take out ram why do I post an "FF" code on my EPOX 8KHA+?

I'm having problems with the "FF" code. Last night we hooked up the mobo to our old computer's PSU (250W). I got a C1 code. I took out the RAM, placed it back in and got an immediate "FF" code. So when I hooked it up to the Chieftech 420W PSU I immediately get an "FF" code. I then took out the ram completely and fired it up (to see what I get). It immediately goes to "FF" without any RAM.

ANy ideas what this means? ANy help would be great...I'm at a loss on what to do now.

Read the manual!!!!!!! It has description of all the codes.

Anyway, the sympton you described doesn't sound normal, "FF" means normal, if there is no ram in the system it should display something else (I don't have the manual with me now).

I've used 25+ of the same board and they are all very stable.

Hmm, check the board around the RAM slots to make sure there's nothing looking slightly charred or melted.

An FF code at bootup is usually a bad thing...could be any mix of stuff. I would recommend to check and make sure nothing's shorting, and I would pop the RAM back in and reseat the CPU, take everything out but the video card, and give it a go, adding things one by one.

Here's a thread on it at amdmb.com's Epox forums.. a place basically devoted to your mobo. Just, my gosh.. never seen so many thread crappers and trolls. Of course, I wouldn't go looking for what your problem might be here, but ya might find some good ideas. As for problems.. I mean, this guy ran his Athlon with only a heatsink and without a fan ON PURPOSE. Duh.. oops.
