Hey guys when i set a static address for my computer (which is connected to a router) my instant messaging program can connect to the internet, and im able to download data on a private program. But when i open up a browser like IE or firefox, they wont connect to the internet. May someone please tell me how i can overcome this problem?

Why are you using static instead of DHCP? If you have your own router you should just let it assign you an IP.

Your router probably is not running a dns service. However, it should tell you the dns servers that it got from it's dhcp wan connection. Find out those and plug 'em in on your machine.

I use static IP's behind my router. I go my routers status page and get the two DNS server IP's my router gets from my ISP. I also enter my routers IP address as a third DNS entry. Your default gateway will also be your routers IP address.
