When I plug in my mini-dvi I lose my internet connection

I have an iMac and when I plug in the mini-dvi to run two monitors I lose my airport connection completely.

But the second I unplug the mini-dvi it comes back.

Anyone ever heard of such a problem?

Very annoying.

update
I found a work around by lowering the resolution on the external monitor from 1600x1200 to 1280x1024.

Will do some more footwork to see what else I can learn.
Maybe it is a video memory problem?

I have never had that problem. What kind of MiniDVI conector is it? Also, is it Apple branded or a third party? Finally, is your iMac still under warranty?

Apple brand, had the Mac for over a year so I am pretty sure I am on my own.

Weird ass problem. Most likely related to some messed up driver or something.

Everything works fine on my MacBook. But not on the iMac. Ugh.

You could always go to an Apple Store and ask. I've found the people there very willing to help regardless of warranty status.

Exactly, they might not fix it, but they will certainly talk to you and offer suggestions. Have you tried a different MiniDVI adapter? Best Buy sells them, and of course the Apple store.

Ok... I only have a problem when the monitor is turned on... go figure.

Plug it in and turn it off and everything works fine, but the second I hit the power switch I lose wifi... weird ass problem.

Again no problem at all when plugged into the Dell.

Sounds maybe like a grounding issue. Do you have a different adapter that you can try?

Tried it, doesn't work.

Tried a different DVI cable too. :disgust:
