when having a nap

when i try to sleep for maybe 10-15 minutes, i don't really sleep. it's like my eyes are closing and been wanting to sleep. i often end up sleeping for two or three hours.

i cannot just nap for less than 30 minutes, i'd be like, "that's it, i cannot sleep at all. i'm up now" something like that.

i guess i'm a noob at napping. so how do you describe nap?

😕

Nap = Sleep in the middle of the day, or more specifically, sleep outside your normal daily/nightly sleep schedule

I also have no idea how someone can sleep for less than 20 minutes and get any benefit from it. If I fall asleep I'm out for at least 2 hours if I'm not woken up.

If your wake up during a REM cycle you will feel more tired than when you laid down. There's been much sleep research supporting this. I find that if I sleep for less than 45 min its "napping" but longer its sleeping with REM.

agreed.

15 minute power naps increases productivity! Da Vinci took 15 minute naps throughout the day, and didn't sleep at night. I forget what the term is called for this, but it works.

I can post while napping.

zzzzzzzz

I used to take calls while sleeping at my old job. Got an 80% on a quality audit on one. On others... let's just say I said a lot of things that didn't make sense.

Power nap.

I sleep for 14 - 17 minutes, when I need it. I just close my eyes, zone out, and put a timer on for 17 minutes. If I wake up before the time is up, it's usually > 14 minutes, but it works wonders. If you go over 20 minutes, it's still not a problem, as long as you have a friend to wake you up when your timer has gone off.

It takes me way too long to fall asleep to be able to nap effectively. If I lay down during the day, I'll be out for a few hours - unless I set an alarm for 30 minutes or less, in which case I never even get to sleep (or just barely) and then just end up pissed off that I have to get up so soon. 😛 I have no idea how people are able to actually sleep for 15-30 minutes.

I sometimes take naps in the evning when I get home from work, but lately they have turned into less of a nap and more of a "went to bed at 6:30-7:00pm" and even though I wake up several times in the evening, I just end up going back to bed.

Well, I never try to sleep for less than 30 mins, but that I can do. I need to set an alarm though.

I should have said 15-60 minutes maybe. Anything under a few hours is useless to me and just serves to piss me off 😛

Edit: Unless I first take 400mg of caffeine. Then I can usually wake up without too much trouble in 30-60 minutes.

Sometimes at work i'll get so tired, i'll just put my head on the desk and nap (even though I don't think I actually sleep). I just close my eyes and relax for 20 minutes, then i feel refreshed.

How can you try to sleep, fail, but still fall asleep? 😕 Having trouble deciphering this. Are you saying that it takes longer than 30 minutes for you to actually fall sleep? I think so but it's confusing because you seem to include the time it takes to go to sleep in the total time you slept. It would be like me saying, I slept for 8 hours last night but only got 2 hours of sleep.

No work today ... just woke up from a 3 hour nap myself! 😉

I need to sleep for at least 2.5-3 hours or its pretty much worthless.

Amen, brother. 17 minutes is the perfect amount to get the post-lunch sleepies out. 🙂

spend some time in the military, you can learn to sleep at any time for any length of time. I fell asleep at the wheel of an 8,000 ton destroyer
