When getting in a fistfight ever worth it?

Beyond the basic situation of self-defense?

In your years of public education, getting in a fistfight is grounds for suspension or expulsion, regardless of the circumstances. After that, it is grounds for a civil suit. It seems now that it is never really worth the money or effort to get into a fight other than for purely self-defense reasons.

Thoughts?

I got in a fist fight in 9th grade

I beat this kid up in the locker room. After the fight, I never got in trouble for it, though.

times i would fight:
1. if my friend(s) were in a fight and I had to back them up (this is highly unlikely)
2. self defence

Life doesn't revolve around school, or any of the ideals you learn therein.

Beating someone for beating their wife or kids is worth it. Beating someone for beating their dog is worth it.
There are reasons, you just havn't been exposed to them yet.

Fist fight is not worth it. What's the point? To be "cool" or something? You don't impress anyone.

I never started a fight, but I have always finished it. The worst part of my school is they have a zero-tolerance policy (luckily I never personally tested it). With this policy, if I were to retaliate in self defense, I would get in more trouble than the person who hit me first.

I was in a fist fight in Grade 7.

I threw a basketball at some guy for mouthing off at me.
I turn around start walking away, and next thing I know I get sucker punched from behind.
Turn around, and it's the guy I threw the ball at.
SPIDER SENSES take over and automatically throw a left jab followed by a right hook and that biznatch went down.
PWNED

Now, 2 years after, he still trembles when I'm near :D

Oh yeah, never got in trouble too

Even then, the man could bring a civil suit against you later on, and probably win.

Similar thing happened to me during the last day of a summer camp. Some kid comes from behind and whales me in the side of the hind (I was not looking at him, it was a sucker punch), so I turn around and knock him right on his ass. Made him look like a fool.

Your assuming that people think that fist fights are worth in the first place. Contrary to what you believe, most don't.

They are not worth it. If someone really needs to be attacked, they need to be hurt bad. Fist fighting is ONLY good for self defense.

Why are you worried about a civil suit? Lawyers and courts and legislatures don't tell you how to run your life. The law isn't even CLOSE to the "right" thing to do.

I've personally been through 2 instances of someone trying to sue me for my actions. Neither of which ever came to fruition. The DA and the judge laughed and threw the cases out.
If you just happened to fight someone, and you both left without knowing each others names and what not, it would be rather hard for the other party to file a lawsuit.

If you are pushed into a position of absolutely having to defend yourself or another person, fists should be your weapon of last resort. You never assume your assailant is going to fight "fair". You grab an object, anything you can wield as a weapon, and beat the person to the ground. You don't stop beating him until you are positive he isn't going to get up for a long time. My father taught me this when I was very young. Never, ever give the other guy a fair chance.

Touche.

Mind you, all, I've never been in a fight. I got punched once in elementary school, but I declined to fight back seeing as how I was outnumbered 12 to 1.

Now? I would've called the cops and had 'em arrested for assault and battery. :p
