On the thing I've been wonder about ever since since I learned that gardeners have and still are developing ever increasing sweeter varieties of apples, sweet corn, and other fruits and veggies. Is when does such foods too dangerous for diabetics to consume? And if this goes long enough, even deadly for non-diabetic folks?

The World already has a Obesity Epidemic cause by over consumption of processed foods. Now suppose this epidemic isn't isn't solved in the future by people switching back to real and home prepared meals due to the high levels of sugars that bred into our crops because they sell better?

I can see this now, fruits and veggies become so sweet that they taste disgusing to those who are not already addicted to sugar.

Did not even realize they were making it sweeter, that could definitely be an issue. Really I wish they would just stop fucking with our food. Pretty bad when you're trying to eat healthy then find out these things about food you thought was natural.

Is this even a real concern or just some bullshit invented by the people promoting the foods and diets that aren't in our best long term interests as far as health goes?

Being diabetic this a real concern of mine and this question is one that I actually thought of. It is not something I've read by damn quacks trying to sell something.

Look up wild watermelons. Taste a wild strawberry. White rice is a staple food for billions of people and yet it didn't exist in nature. Understand that no form of corn exists in nature (and never did) yet it is sweet enough that we use it as a replacement for cane sugar in much of North America. Bananas were very different before we started frankensteining them too. Brussel sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli, and cabbage we're all the same plant in nature but we somehow cultivated it into these extreme variations that we consider different vegetables. Our zucchini, squash, and pumpkins are all crazy hybrids. You think green beans were like that before we got our hands on them? Tomatoes? Avocados were supposed to go extinct with the dinos and now we splice clones onto other root stock so that they don't die in places they otherwise can't be grown.

Point is, none of it is "natural" even if it fits the legal definition. Also, when you think about it, just about everything we consider a vegetable is actually a fruit and has way more sugar than most real veggies. Bean pods, corn, tomatoes, squash, etc. Avoiding it to "stay healthy" pretty much means starving to death these days.

OP: yes, intentionally sweetened fruits could probably cause you problems in excess long term. You're still safer eating apples than drinking soda.

We've been modifying foods for a long time, but only in the last 50 years has it started to affect us on such a widespread scale.

Your palate will change if you allow enough time. Even if you're a sugar addict. In my case I started to eat brocolli. I went from zero bags of brocolli to 3-4 bags a week. BTW, you'd want to only add 1-2 fruits a day and stick to mainly vegetables. My daily veggies consist of brocolli, kale, spinach, greens mix, califrower rice, sweet potato, and avacado. My fruit is banana. That's about it. I'll either use thiose veggies mixed in my nutribullet, side dish, and a salad. Limit the sugars. I've been consuming about 65g a day. All nautural. I do use unfiltered honey on my steel cut oats. Was thinking about getting rid of the honey, but there are so many health benefts with consuming 1TBSP of honey per day.

Fruits and vegetables contain a good amount of fiber, which slows your body's absorption of the sugars.
