When does a sticky lose it's stick?

As I sit here and read over posts, and reply to a few, I got to thinking. When a post is sticky worthy, when exactly does it lose that?? Do you think the mods decide a time frame, or maybe they take a vote. Now for the secret santa thread I can understand because that is up and coming, but what about the acemcmac threads?? I think that we all know by now what has happened, and I think that we all have sent our condolences. I am not saying to unsticky them, I am more or less just trying to understand the protocol, thats all.

Either way, what about other forums, I wonder how they decide what gets a sticky, and what doesn't.

That's weird, I was wondering that same thing yesterday. I mean, obviously it won't be there in six years, you know? I guess at some point.... they unsticky it and it just goes the way of normal threads... stays alive if people post, otherwise it sinks into the history.

They have a time limit. The acemcmac thread started falling a bit the other day until it got re-stickied.

im not concerned, like the subtitle said, "just curious... I was more or less trying to start up a conversation about something no one else had brought up.... While I love the Wii, I figured we have enough threads about gaming, tv, news stories and such.

I imagine the mods sitting around this large table with laptops around them as they has one large light shine down on them, as they search the the forums looking for posts worthy of a sticky.... Haha, ok so I know thats not how it is done, but it would be funny if it was.

I hate stickies. They are just annoying. One or two special ones here and there aren't to bad but I really hate how they start taking up half the page sometimes. They definitely leave them up to long constantly.
