When does $5 = $1200?

Home improvement, that's how!

My washing machine broke over the weekend. Most likely a belt or a gear, so it would probably be a relatively easy and very cheap fix.

But it is 10+ years old, and it was the absolute cheapest (Roper) model that we newlyweds could find. My wife brings up the idea of getting a new one. Although I can think of many other things I'd rather spend $700 on, a new one sounds like a reasonable idea. An afternoon later, we pick out a nice front loader and schedule it for delivery on Wednesday.

Oh yeah, since we have to pull the washer out, it would be a great time to paint! Well hell... If we are painting, we should go ahead and replace the ugly flooring. Oh yeah, that cheapo mirror is pretty ugly too. If we have new paint and new flooring, we are going to need new moldings. And it would be silly not to refurnish the cabinets, and install new shelving.

Two days later, I'm almost done. And I'm beat... But there's more work to do tonight, since they are delivering the washer first thing in the morn.

*sigh* :moon:

I'm telling you... girls have mind control of some sort. My ex wanted asked me to put her monitor on her desk... next thing you know i connected the whole computer. 😕

Our dryer is only three years old. But even still... You have no idea how close we came to dropping another $400 on the one that matched the new washer.
Considering that they are stackable, and really would free up a bunch of room... I'm predicting we'll have a new dryer within a couple of months.

Including the flooring (which extended into the dining room)... It ran us well over $3000. The Corian countertops were the bulk of the cost.
